Softcom

There’s nothing soft about Softcom Technology Consulting. This Toronto-based Internet Service Provider (ISP) is heating up the marketplace in Toronto, Canada providing high-quality Internet services, including Web and application hosting, e-mail access, consulting services, and more.

Just four-years-old, Softcom boasts an impressive base of 30,000-plus
hosting customers through its hosting sites myhosting.com™ and attracts over 105 million monthly page views to its Web-based e-mail retrieval service mail2web.com™.

With a large customer base that continues to grow monthly by leaps and bounds, Softcom needed to select an e-mail server that could easily and cost effectively accommodate their growing needs. That’s when they set their sights on IMail Server from Ipswitch, Inc. IMail Server is a Windows-based e-mail server that is the leading choice of many ISPs because of its ease-of-use, low-cost of ownership, and Web messaging capabilities. IMail Server can boast that it has approximately 13.2 million seats through service providers like Softcom. It is available in license configurations for 250-users, 1,000-users, or for an unlimited number of users.

“We evaluated many products prior to selecting IMail,” said Tony Yustein, CEO of Softcom. “The choice to purchase IMail came down to its ease-of-use and the competitive pricing model. We really liked the flexibility that an unlimited number of users license gave our business.”

Softcom implemented its first copy of IMail in 1997. As its business has
grown, so has its need for IMail Server. Softcom now utilizes 41 copies of IMail to supply e-mail services to its customers.

“Our requirements were very simple,” said Yustein. “We required an NT-based server product that provided a scalable and reliable e-mail management solution for our Web hosting customers. IMail provided this capability and more.”

One of the key features of IMail that has been particularly useful to
Softcom is IMail’s flexibility with administrative tasks. Through the Web-based interface, users can manage all elements of their e-mail accounts. Since users (both internal Softcom employees and external customers) are empowered to make all changes themselves, Softcom has realized a substantial time and cost savings.

The ease of installation was an additional feature that convinced Softcom that IMail was the right product for them. It took less than half a day to install IMail on their initial group of 30 servers.

“After four years, we continue to benefit from using IMail,” added Yustein. “With only a few reliable and cost-effective alternatives available in the market, IMail continues to save us a considerable amount of time and money."
